Affiliate Markeing Basics

How does one become an affiliate marketer?

Aug 08, 2022

Introduction

Affiliate marketing is the practice of earning a commission by promoting products or services.

This can be done through an online store, social media account, or other publication. Unlike direct sales, you don't own any products or services that you promote — so the risk for fraudulent goods is higher.

Furthermore, there are a range of methods to advertise your product (email lists and social media accounts) rather than just website advertising alone.

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which businesses pay commissions to their affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate's own efforts.

If you have an active social media following, website, blog or email list then this is probably the best approach for you.

To put it simply: if others like what they see in your posts and find value through them—they may just want to connect with you more by purchasing whatever product or service that was previously mentioned along side their other favourite brands.

How does one become an affiliate marketer?

Affiliate marketing programs are plentiful, but they all have one thing in common: you need to sign up for them.

To do so, visit the affiliate program's site and read through their terms and conditions. Once you've decided which program to join, sign up for their affiliate network (which is different from their main website) and choose products that best match your niche.

Once you've signed up for an affiliate network and chosen your niche product(s), it's time to build a website where you can promote them.

Building your site.

If you want to succeed in affiliate marketing, your site must be professional andwell designed — you need a great domain name, hosting plan, theme and content. These are all things you can do yourself or hire out to others.

If you have a blog or website, you can use it to promote your products. If not, start by registering a domain name with namecheap or another hosting provider and building a site. Next, choose a design for your site (there are free ones available) and you are ready to customize the text and images

The hosting plan is what keeps everything running smoothly behind-the-scenes so visitors can access all of its content without issue when visiting your site online via browser software like Chrome or Firefox.

How to find the best products and services to sell.

When choosing products and services to sell, focus on items you’re passionate about in order to connect with customers.

One way to dramatically increase your chances of becoming a successful affiliate marketer is to not try and sell something just because someone told you it makes money.

You'll regret it later on when things don't go as planned and all of your efforts feel like they were wasted. In addition, your potential customers won't trust your recommendations since they know how hard it was for YOU!

Choosing the right affiliate programs for you.

Once you have a basic understanding of what affiliate marketing is and how it works, the next step is to choose the right affiliate programs for you. There are many different types of programs out there, offering a variety of products and services. When choosing which ones best fit your niche, it's important to consider some key factors.

First and foremost: look for programs that offer high commissions. While this might seem obvious at first glance, it’s important to note that not all commission rates are created equal; some may appear higher than others because they include more product categories (such as eBooks) or upsells (eBooks with access to webinars).

If possible, only choose offers that include one category per product group—for example, an offer to “refer 5 people who sign up for our monthly newsletter email series and we’ll give you $100 cash!” then avoid this type of offer altogether.

Why?

Because it will likely cost much more money than simply buying an eBook or other digital product outright on Amazon's website in order make back its cost through reselling opportunities alone (and even then there would still be no guarantee).

Learn about each program you choose.

Once you’ve decided to become an affiliate marketer, begin your research by reading about each program.

When researching the company, be sure to find out how long they have been in business, what their reputation is like among their customers and community members (online reviews are a great resource for this), and whether or not they offer any guarantees of quality products/services.

Research the product : What is it exactly that this product or service does, and why would people buy it? This doesn’t mean that you should try to “sell” the item yourself in your marketing efforts; rather, just understand what it can do so that when someone asks you about it (or if someone asks for advice), you can provide accurate information based on actual facts instead of just hype.

For example: If I were interested in selling books related to baking cookies, I would need to know what kinds of cookie recipes are popular among my target audience so that I could offer them books with those recipes!

Building a list with your sites or blog.

Here are a few ways you can build a list of people who want to hear from you:

  • Use a contact form on your website.
  • Make friends and followers through social media.
  • Create a newsletter for interested readers.

Social media! Maximize those ad dollars.

Social media is a great place to start when promoting a product. You can use it to create a following and build brand awareness. It’s also a great way to promote products that you are selling as an affiliate marketer, especially if you want to make some money from your social platform.

To get the most value out of social media advertising, you need to know how best to do it. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have different types of ads that offer various opportunities for advertisers depending on their target audience, budget and goals for each campaign.

Facebook:

  • Promoted posts - this allows users who have liked pages or followed brands on Facebook (but not necessarily signed up for their emails) access promotions without having their information collected or shared with other parties.

Sign up for as many platforms as possible, research, and repeat!

  • Sign up for as many affiliate programs as possible and/or create your own website.

  • Choose a niche and focus on it, but don't be afraid to branch out if something comes up that you think you can do well (and make sure it's legal).

  • Choose a program that offers products or services related to your niche, preferably one with good products/services at competitive prices and good commission rates/payouts (you want to see some kind of return on investment).

  • Decide which product(s) you're going to promote; this will depend on what kind of site you have set up and what payment processors they support (we'll get into this more later).

  • Create your site! Some people use WordPress while others prefer GrooveAsia or similar platforms; either way should work fine if done right—there are tons of resources online so don't worry too much about getting stuck here unless there's something specific holding back progress right now such as technical issues with hosting providers that aren't easy enough fixes without hiring someone else help out with them manually instead."

Conclusion

Becoming an affiliate marketer is a lot of hard work, but it can also be very rewarding. Once you’ve got everything setup and are ready to start making money from your blog or website, there are endless possibilities for growing your list and earning more income. The best part about it all? You get to do what you love most—write!
